Seeds of Future: LifeBank Foundation Takes Root in Maasin Watershed
MAASIN, ILOILO—The LifeBank Foundation (LBF) Central Office, in partnership with Water.org, Cargill, LGU Maasin, and Greenpeace Philippines-Iloilo, successfully conducted the “Leaf A Legacy” A Tree-Planting Activity at the Maasin Watershed in Brgy. Daja, Maasin, last Saturday, April 26, 2025, to promote environmental awareness and stewardship among LBF employees.
The event officially commenced with warm opening remarks from Roberto Mediana Jr., Officer-in-Charge of LBF, who welcomed the partners and employees to the activity.
The program also featured a climate change awareness orientation led by Greenpeace Philippines-Iloilo speakers, Ms. Joana May Rivera and Mr. JV James Ramos, who discussed the definition and causes of climate change and explained how tree planting reduces stress.
‘’To address climate change, let’s adopt a sustainable lifestyle, actively support local eco-friendly businesses and advocacies, and raise awareness. This isn’t a one-time effort for a single event or year; this is a commitment we are already building upon for the decade ahead and beyond,’’ said Mr. Ramos.
In addition to the orientation, the Senior Environmental Management Specialist (SEMS), Noemie Marie M. Magullado, Officer-in-Charge, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Maasin, led a practical demonstration on proper tree planting techniques.
‘’As they said—plant a tree for me, so the whole world can see, watch it grow, and smile, it will take a while. To relieve your stress, plant trees today. So that in the future, you will be able to hug that tree,’’ said OIC Magullado.
Following the informative sessions, the event documentation took place, capturing the collective enthusiasm and the tree planting take off, as LBF employees actively planted 500 native tree seedlings within the designated planting site of Maasin Watershed.
The Tree-Planting Activity isn’t just an activity; it represents a tangible step towards a greener future for Maasin and underscores the LifeBank Foundation’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and improving the community.
